Bucket ‘a Change!
Saturday, April 28th, 2007 at 3:47 pmI’ve been tossing all my change into this 2-gallon bucket for the past year and a half, give or take. Once in a while, I’d pull out a few quarters to get a soda from the machine, but since our laundry room doesn’t use coins, it hadn’t been pillaged for quarters.
The bucket is 9.5 inches across, and the coins were about 1.25 inches deep. According to Google, that’s about 88 cubic inches of coins.
I took it down to the bank today and poured it all in their machine. Care to guess how much it was? Whoever is closest wins it all. Or maybe a hug, I haven’t decided yet. I’ll post the winner tomorrow or Monday.
Also, figure out where this penny came from, and you can have that too. Here’s the Queen’s backside (teehee).

$200 and the weird coin is a British penny (posted on LiveJournal)

Oops, I didn’t see that you said it was only 1 inch deep. That means it’s only about 12 bucks.

Man. What a bunch of rubes. $200???!?!? I can already taste the hug. Are you other people posting from some other time period, when American currency was keyed to the gold standard? Or perhaps you’ve mistaken Brock’s loose change for South African Kugerands?

Can I just have a hug?
Maybe a little anal?
Anal sex, that is, just so we’re clear. (posted on LiveJournal)

Actually, now that I’ve viewed the linked photo on “Original Size” via Flickr, I’m changing my answer. This is, as I understand it, perfectly acceptable within the rules of the contest and shouldn’t impact my winning of the Hug in any way. My revised answer is $18.

Jonson - mulligans are, in fact, perfectly legal. I’ll be announcing the winner tonight.

That is a penny from my homeland
yay!
My Dad used to save all his change in a big apple juice jar when we were kids and once a year we would roll it all and take it to the bank and split it
I think $57 in your jar.
when are you coming back to ca? (posted on LiveJournal)

well, in a cubic inch, i think i can fit 8 quarters, so that’s $2/max per cubic inch, so it must be less than $176. you can fit what, 1.6 dimes in a quarter, 1.4 pennies, and 1.2 nickels? so a cubic inch of dimes is $1.28, a cubic inch of pennies is 12 cents, a cubic inch of nickles is 48 cents. so assuming you have an equal amount of each coin, that’s an average of $.97. barring calculating average change for a transaction (since you probably don’t have an equal amount of each coin), and subtracting a little since you probably have less quarters and the coins aren’t airtight packed, i’ll go with $75. I had a much smaller container at home some time ago that turned out to be 115, so I’m going to say that this is 190 (since someone else already took 200). (posted on LiveJournal)

Oh wait I misread too and the container isn’t full, I’ll go with 47. (posted on LiveJournal)
