FriendDA

From Rands in Repose:

A by-product of obsessively, constantly surfing the net to discover the bright and the shiny is a steady flow of promising new ideas. Mostly slight variations on existing great ideas that tickle your fancy. For example, after staring at Twitter for nearly two years, I’m guessing I’ve had a dozen bright ideas about Twitter-inspired products. These ideas tend to show up in the morning during the drive, after appropriate caffeination, and more often than not they fade the moment I walk into the office.

But some stick.

I’m glad someone else agrees with my justification for obsessively Internetting, and I love the FriendDA.

Idea Factory

The best ideas come while I’m in the shower or walking between home and work. My shower whiteboard idea was borne out of this (but I never did order one), and on days like today, I’ll stop at a bus stop bench to scribble things down before I forget (sure do love that Moleskine).

It would seem that taking more walks or spending more time in the shower might spur some creativity, but that’s not how it works. If I’m actually TRYING to think of something, it doesn’t happen; I have to let my mind wander, because most times I’ll have a great idea about something unrelated to what I AM thinking about.

The obvious solution is to wander around town in a drunken stupor, because then I can’t actively think about anything. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Write This Down

I need to start keeping a pad of paper and pen near my bed. My grandest ideas always come to me while I’m laying in bed. I came up with some great stuff last night, but now I can’t remember any of it.

On the other hand, maybe it just seems great because I’m half asleep at the time.
